NSW Local Government Minister Don Page has congratulated the councils which were successful at the Local Government and Shires Associations’ (LGSA’s) Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards, which were held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. In what was the 14th edition of the annual awards, nominations were received from more than 100 NSW councils or regional organisations of councils, with 49 awards presented in 12 environmental categories including `Communication, Education & Empowerment’, `Energy Saving & Climate Change’, and `Roadside Environmental Management Award’. Willoughby Council won the main award at the ceremony, `Overall Winner, Local Sustainability’. “I congratulate all the councils and regional organisations of councils which shared in the 49 awards recognising the very best environmental innovators and achievers across the NSW local government sector,” Mr Page said. “I understand the calibre of entries this year was of the highest standard and the number of entries received was impressive. “I encourage all the winners to enter again next year, and hope that their achievements inspire other councils as they undertake environmentally-friendly projects and programs.” A complete list of winners and finalists from yesterday’s event is at the Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards, www.lgsa-plus.net.au/EnvironmentAwards. |
