Ballina Electorate Media Releases
Don Page Takes A Stand Against Bullying (26/05/2009)
Local MP Don Page has stepped up the fight against bullying in communities across the Ballina Electorate with the release of a new booklet.
Entitled “Bullying … Let’s Stamp It Out”, this community initiative is bound to have a positive influence on people of all ages, according to Mr Page.
“Bullying is a very real and present danger in our schools and workplaces,” said Mr Page.
“It is not something to be ignored and which people just hope will go away,” he said.
“There has to be proactive steps taken to stop bullying in all of its nasty forms. There needs to be work done with those who insist on bullying, and also support for those victims who suffer such harassment.
“The booklet distributed to homes throughout the electorate will hopefully make people more aware of this problem we have in society”
Mr Page said it was important the entire community keeps up the fight against bullying.
“The more people who speak out against bullies will send a clear message to these tormentors that their behaviour is totally unacceptable within our society and the consequences will be great,” he said.
The booklet contains tips to help victims of bullying as well as useful contact information as to where to seek assistance.
